Odoo Community or Enterprise: how to choose
Odoo's two editions share the same foundation, but not the same modules or business model. The questions to ask before you decide.

Odoo comes in two editions. Community is open source and free; Enterprise is sold as a per-user subscription. The choice affects features, hosting, upgrades and budget. Here's how we think about it.
What both editions share
The core is the same: sales, CRM, purchasing, inventory, invoicing, website, point of sale, projects… Most custom developments work on both editions.
What Enterprise adds
- Additional apps, such as full accounting, Studio (no-code customisation), helpdesk, field service, planning and e-signature.
- Mobile apps and a more polished interface on some modules.
- Support and version upgrades handled by the vendor.
- Hosting on Odoo Online or Odoo.sh.
When Community is enough
Community works well for companies whose needs are covered by the standard modules, who have a technical partner for hosting and maintenance, and who can fill the gaps with community modules (OCA) or custom development.
Questions to ask
- Which processes must you cover from day one, and in two years?
- Will accounting run in Odoo or in another tool?
- How many users, and with which roles?
- Who will handle hosting, backups and upgrades?
- What total budget over three to five years, licences and services included?
Our advice
Compare the total cost over several years, not just licence prices: an Enterprise subscription can cost less than a pile of custom developments — and vice versa.
